Mini residency - Oscar Jimenez Trio
Yots Café Bar, Australia

Thurs 31 Jan … 4 pm – 7 pm
Thurs 7 and Thur 14 February….5 pm – 8 pm

The Australian National Maritime Museum’s harbour front café bar Yots is kicking into swing this Summer with FREE evening performances by Latin Roots sensations Oscar Jimenez Trio

Yots Café will host a mini residency from the trio on Thursday evenings – 31 January, 7 February and a special Valentine’s performance on 14 February.

Oscar Jiminez is best known as the lead singer of Aria nominated band Watussi. Fresh from his recent performance supporting Spanish Superstar Manu Chao, his appearances at Yots with his trio will feature his own brand of finely crafted, uplifting songs soulfully inspired by his Colombian roots.

And to fit with the music it will be serving a Latin-inspired menu including a delicious range of Tapas and Sangria (usual full bar also available).

Yots Café boasts one of Sydney’s best views – out across the museum fleet in the foreground, Darling Harbour and Sydney’s towering skyline. It’s easily accessible by Sydney Ferry (Pyrmont Bay wharf), bus (Route 443) train (Town Hall station),  monorail (Harbourside stop) or light rail (Pyrmont Bay stop).

And after sunset why not take a walk across Pyrmont Bridge to experience the National Maritime Museum’s major new light show Waves of Migration on its iconic roof? Celebrating the history of migration to Australia, the eight minute show tells the compelling stories of those who’ve come across the seas.

The Australian National Maritime Museum, at 2 Murray Street, Darling Harbour, is open daily 9.30 am to 5 pm. Inquiries (02) 9298 3777 or www.anmm.gov.au

The Australian National Maritime Museum is pleased to announce that Yots, its revamped waterside functions venue, has opened.

The Australian National Maritime Musuem has announced the opening of Yots, its revamped waterside functions venue with new menus and new ideas

Set in Sydney’s Darling Harbour, with historic vessels and the Sydney skyline as its backdrop, the recently renovated venue is an elegant, year round, all weather function space. It will play host to corporate functions, weddings and social events – from banquets to cocktail parties – and will also become the museum’s café bar later in the year.

“The Australian National Maritime Museum is delighted to open Yots. With a new venue, new menu and new ideas we look forward to creating unforgettable events in our waterfront setting,” said museum director Mary-Louise Williams.

Yots, which accomodates 190 people seated or 300 people for cocktails, is now available to hire. The new look venue has undergone months of remodelling which has involved creating a roof top terrace and adding floor to ceiling, retractable glass doors to make a stylish indoor/outdoor space. The museum recently announced it had appointed new caterers for museum events and functions. Sydney-based Laissez-faire Catering has over 20 years experience providing delicious food, flexible menus and professional staff. They can produce tailored catering packages based on individual requirements using locally sourced products.

The museum is excited to offer unique, imaginiative events by combining the cultural activity of viewing an exhibition with wonderful dining. Guests are treated to an exceptional experience, while at the same time supporting the museum in its work.

To celebrate the launch of the new venue, the museum is offering a spring special. For every booking received for dinners from September to November guests can enjoy a complimentary champagne package on HMAS Vampire, the museum’s former Navy Daring class destroyer.

The reworked Yots adds to the museum’s suite of unique venues catering for five to 300 guests which include the Tasman Light Gallery, former Navy destroyer HMAS Vampire and the museum’s theatre.
